The Department of Veterans Affairs National Black Chaplains Association became the grateful and proud beneficiary of a generous donation from the United Military Chaplains Association (UMCA). The latter organization had become widely known in the Department of the Air Force as an entity that was responsible for training and mentoring Black Chaplains for more than 12 years. Prior to the closing of the organization, the leadership under the direction of Chaplain Colonel Wilfred R. Bristol, Ch. Col USAF, Retired, tirelessly searched for an organization that possessed essentially the same goals and purpose of UMCA. His search led to the Department of Veterans Affairs National Black Chaplains Organization. These funds were donated in honor of two men, who were the founders of UMCA, Chaplain Colonel Walter E. Beamon and Chaplain Colonel John R. Blair. “Both men were leaders without peers, who had an indelible impact on the Air Force Chaplains Corps, and often put their careers on the line to ensure that Black Chaplains succeeded.”
